About

Support the person, not the shift.

TipRiver is a Patreon for ordinary people. If someone behind a counter makes your regular place better, TipRiver lets you send them a small monthly amount — straight into their own account, for as long as you like.

Why we built it

A tip follows the shift. If your favourite barista moves to a café across the street, the jar she filled for years stays behind. The thanks a regular wants to give is to the person, not the uniform — but until now the only tools we had were the jar, the app at one chain, or a one-off Venmo that never recurs.

We also kept meeting the same worry from workers themselves: tips are unpredictable, invisible on a payslip, and gone the day the rota changes. A small number of regulars pledging $2–$50 a month is different. It adds up, it recurs, and it arrives in an account the worker owns.

How it works, in one breath

  1. A worker — a barista, bartender, server — gets a TipRiver code: a link and a QR card they can put next to the jar.
  2. Their regulars use the code to start a monthly pledge of $2–$50. There is no search and no chat. You can only reach someone by their code.
  3. Charges are bundled: each regular is charged once a month for everyone they support — one line on the statement, one fee.
  4. Payouts go out once a month to each worker’s own account. The worker keeps 100% of the pledge. Nothing is taken from the tip.

What we deliberately left out

No searchNo directoryNo chatNo venue accountsNo ratingsNo perks or tiersNo leaderboards

Regular service work happens in person; the pledge should stay that personal. A code can be given, never discovered — so a worker’s page only exists for the people they chose to hand it to. And because there are no tiers, there is no ladder to climb and nobody “higher” than anybody else.

The cap is a feature

Pledges are $2–$50 a month, per person. The cap exists so money can’t buy attention: a regular’s kindness should never become a worker’s obligation. TipRiver is not the employer and doesn’t set anyone’s pay — it just moves thanks that already existed into a recurring form.

Who we are

TipRiver is a small, self-funded team currently hand-recruiting 30–50 workers at cafes and pubs on one busy street. No growth team, no ad budget, no venture clock. We run a pilot because trust in a money product is earned street by street, not launched.
