Terms of Service
Written to be read. If any part of this is unclear, that’s our fault — tell us and we’ll fix the words.
1. What TipRiver is
TipRiver is a service that lets a person (a “regular”) send recurring monthly payments (a “pledge”) to a named service worker (a “worker”) using a code the worker shares. TipRiver moves money between regulars and workers; it does not employ workers and does not set anyone’s pay.
2. Accounts
Workers sign up with an email and password. Regulars create an account with an email at their first pledge and sign in with a magic link we send to that address. You’re responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your email accessible.
3. Pledges
- Pledges are between $2.00 and $50.00 per month, per worker.
- Pledges renew monthly until you change, pause or cancel them, which you can do at any time from your dashboard.
- Charges are bundled: you are charged once per month for all of your active pledges, on the 1st of the month.
- If a charge fails, your pledges pause and we email you. We do not retry charges without telling you.
- When you cancel: if your latest pledge payment has not yet been paid out, its amount is refunded to you; if it has already reached the worker, nothing is clawed back. Fee cover and platform tips are not refundable.
4. Fees and money
Workers keep 100% of the pledge amount. Card processing (2.9% + 30¢) is offered to regulars as optional “fee cover” on top of the pledge. TipRiver’s revenue is the optional 50¢ platform tip plus any fee cover above the actual processing cost. TipRiver absorbs payout fees.
Payouts to workers run on the 5th business day of each month. Balances under $20 roll over to the next month.
5. Who the money is for
A worker account must represent a real person who does service work and who controls the bank account (or equivalent) that payouts go to. You may not run a page on behalf of a venue, a team pool, or anyone but yourself.
6. Conduct
- Don’t harass, dox or pressure anyone — worker or regular.
- Don’t use TipRiver to advertise, sell, or run promotions.
- Workers may block any regular at any time; blocks are final for that pair.
- Don’t share anyone’s code, page link or personal details publicly without their consent.
7. Taxes
Pledges are income to the worker and TipRiver reports where the law requires. TipRiver is not a tax advisor — see our tax basics page and talk to an accountant for your situation.
8. Availability
We run a small pilot. The service may be paused, reset or changed as we learn. Money already pledged and paid out stays where it is.
9. Termination
You can stop using TipRiver at any time. We can suspend accounts that break these terms, harass people, or misrepresent who the money is for. If we suspend a worker’s account, any un-paid-out balance is paid out to them.
10. Liability
TipRiver is provided as-is. We’re responsible for moving your money correctly and for fixing our mistakes; we’re not responsible for what regulars and workers say to each other, for your tax obligations, or for indirect losses.
