Basics

What is TipRiver?

A Patreon for ordinary people. Regulars pledge $2–$50 a month to a named barista, bartender or server. The money goes straight to the worker’s own account, and they keep 100% of the pledge.

How do I find someone to support?

You don’t — there is no search and no directory on purpose. A worker’s page only exists for people they gave their code to. Scan the card next to the jar or type the link they shared.

Can I pledge anonymously?

Yes. Tick “Pledge Anonymously” and the worker sees “Anonymous Supporter” instead of your first name. Either way they never see your email or card details.

Can I change or stop a pledge?

Any time, from your dashboard. Change the amount, pause for a month, or cancel outright — takes about ten seconds. No exit interviews.

What does the worker see about me?

Your first name (unless anonymous), your pledge amount, your optional note, and how long you’ve been supporting them. Nothing else.

Money & fees

Does TipRiver take a cut of the pledge?

No. The worker keeps 100% of the pledge. Card processing (2.9% + 30¢) sits on top as optional “fee cover” the regular can add, and TipRiver absorbs the payout fee.

What’s the 50¢ platform tip?

An optional 50¢ per month that keeps TipRiver running — charged once per month however many people you support, never inside a pledge. The platform’s revenue is that tip plus whatever fee cover exceeds the real processing cost.

Why one charge a month?

Card fees have a fixed 30¢ that would eat small tips alive. So we bundle: each regular is charged once on the 1st for everyone they support — one line on your statement, one fee.

When do workers get paid?

Payouts run on the 5th business day of each month, to their own account. If the balance is under $20 it rolls over to the next month — no fee, nothing lost.

What happens if my card is declined?

Your pledges pause automatically and we email you. Nothing is retried in the background without you knowing.

What happens if I cancel?

If your latest charge hasn’t been paid out yet, we refund that pledge amount (fee cover and the platform tip are never refunded). If it has already reached the worker, nothing is clawed back.

For workers

Do I need my employer’s permission?

TipRiver is not the employer and doesn’t set anyone’s pay — money from regulars is yours. That said, every workplace has etiquette. Read our workplace-rules primer before you put a card next to the jar.

Is this income?

Yes — pledges are income like any tip. We keep a monthly statement you can download, and a plain-language tax primer that says where to get advice (we’re not accountants).

Can I stop a specific person from pledging?

Yes. Block them from your dashboard and their pledge is cancelled immediately. They aren’t told why, and they can’t pledge again.

What if a note makes me uncomfortable?

You can block the supporter and report the note in one tap. Reports go to a human immediately.

Can I pause payouts or my page?

You can stop accepting new pledges at any time. Existing pledges continue; you can also ask us to pause everything.

Privacy & safety

Who can see my worker page?

Only people with your code. It’s not indexed by search engines, not listed anywhere on TipRiver, and we don’t publish stats.

Does TipRiver see my card?

No. Payment details go to the payment processor (Stripe) at checkout — TipRiver never sees or stores them.

What do you do with my email?

Receipts, pledge changes, and account recovery. That’s all. No newsletter unless you ask, no selling data, no tracking pixels on your worker page.

What if someone finds my page without my code?

They can’t do anything with it that they couldn’t do before — pledge pages aren’t reachable by guessing. If someone is harassing you, block them and report; we act fast.
